The town of Quepos is named after the native chieftain “Quepoa” and has earned a reputation during the last century as being a bustling Banana Town. Today, the remains of that long-gone era are found in “the American Zone.” Later, Quepos became famous due to its proximity to the Crown Jewel of Costa Rica’s National Parks System, Manuel Antonio National Park, and has also garnered a reputation as an incredible sport fishing Mecca. Downtown Quepos itself has a lot of things to offer. During the tour you will learn the main historical aspects about the ancient dwellers of the area and the social, economic and historical characteristics of the region. There will be a strategic stop at Quepos, where your local guide will accompany you to visit the Central Market and the main commercial area filled with gift shops, where you’ll get handcrafts right from the local artisans.
